Safety Certificates

The department of Transport Queensland requires all vehicles to have a safety certificate or certificate of inspection (also known as inspection certificate or roadworthy certificate) before it may be registered (or registration transferred) in Queensland. Vehicle safety inspections are conducted by our accredited approved examiner.
A safety certificate is valid for two months or 2000kms, which ever occurs first. For a motor dealer, three months or 1000kms, which ever occurs first.

Certificates of Modification and Modification Plates

Owners sometimes modify their vehicles to give them a distinctive appearance, to improve their performance, to add desired features, change the engine (alternate or replacement engines), suspension, or to add a long-range fuel tank. Others modify their vehicles so that they are better suited to a specialized purpose.  Modified vehicles must comply with vehicle standards and guidelines, as set out by the Queensland Department of Transport, before a modification plate can be approved.

A modification plate can only be obtained from an authorised examiner.

Vehicle owners who wish to modify their vehicles need to follow the standards and guidelines that apply to the modification of vehicles for use on our roads.  You can find these on the Queensland Transport website.
